What should be done if a death occurs during the night?

As noted, the Burke Funeral Home staff of licensed full time funeral directors is available on a 24 hour, seven days a week basis. When we are notified of a death and instructed, we arrive at the place of death as soon as practical in accordance with the family's wishes. Our presence is only noted in a discreet professional manner. Questions are answered and details are attended to as necessitated. Further discussions and arrangements are handled as the family may instruct and at an appropriate time and place.

Is embalming necessary?

No. NYS law does not require embalming of the remains. However, individual situations, choices and options of the family may determine if this process be performed, following full explanation.

Will the full cost of a funeral need to be paid in advance of the service provided?

No. Each family is provided with our firm’s General Price List, explaining our services and charges for each item. As a family has total control over all options, an itemization of charges will only contain charges for the service or merchandise selected by each family. We work with every family with respect to the financial arrangements. We review each choice, make known our credit and payment statement and assist in any way to make the financial aspect of each service within the means of all. The Burke Funeral Home has a well known regard for all families, regardless of their financial capabilities.

What information will be needed to apply for any Veterans benefits?

Generally, a copy of the veteran’s military report of separation/discharge papers, some known as DD214, military claim and social security number(s). We are always able to put family members in contact with the area veteran’s service agency for further assistance.
