With over sixty years of combined NY state licensure, second and third generation
funeral directors, the staff at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home
brings together decades of experience, service and compassion at a personal
time of need. Pride is taken in attention to the smallest of detail. The Burke
Funeral Home is a long standing member of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce,
National Funeral Directors Association, NY State Funeral Directors Association,
Adirondack Funeral Directors Association and various other business, professional
and local community groups.
Mark T. Phillips
A fourth generation native Saratogian, Mark has been affiliated with Burke Funeral
Home since 1971, receiving his license in 1975. Following the death of his mentor,
the late Richard Stone, he became manager of the firm in 1991. President and
manager of the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, the firm acquired the
Bussin & Cunniff Funeral Home in 2001. A 1972 graduate of St. Peter's Academy
and a '74 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College, he is a strong supporter
of local community involvement. A member and past officer of numerous civic,
fraternal, religious and benevolent organizations, including the Third and Fourth
degrees of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus, Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge
161, the Church of St. Peter, Principessa Elena Society, the Friendly Sons of
St. Patrick, he is a member of both the Saratoga Springs and Saratoga County
Emergency Disaster Preparedness Committees. Currently serving as President of
Beyond the Classroom Foundation, Inc., he is a 15 gallon blood donor for the
American Red Cross. An active member of the US Public Health Service Mortuary
Response Team of Region Two, he is a member and past two term president for
the Adirondack Funeral Directors Association. He was recently re-elected State
Director of the NYS Funeral Directors Association, is spokesperson for the group's
Capital District region and is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association
and the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. He resides on Regent Street in
Saratoga Springs with his wife, the former Michelle DelVecchio. They are the
parents of two college students.
Thomas Armer
Tom has been affiliated as a funeral director with the Burke firm since 1974.
A second generation funeral director, he is one of five licensed funeral directors
in the Armer family of Ballston Spa. A member and former vestryman of Christ
Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa, he is also a member and past president of
the Adirondack Funeral Directors Association. He has donated many years of volunteer
service to the county 4-H unit and is a member and current president of the
Saratoga County Fair Board. Tom's interests include the great outdoors and taking
care of his registered Belgian draft horses at his Meadow View Farm on Hop City
Road in Ballston Spa. He is married to retired Saratoga Springs school teacher
Donna L. Armer, and they are the parents of two daughters and proud grandparents
of Karson Anthony.
Thomas Simone
Tom is a native of Saratoga Springs and a graduate of St. Peter's Academy. His father, Patrick Simone, started and ran Simone Funeral Home, Inc. from 1936 to 1975. After graduating from Hudson Valley Community College's Mortuary Science program, Tom took over the business and ran the funeral home for several years. In Dec. 2006 he brought his experience with him and joined the Burke & Bussing firm. Tom is an active member of the community. He belongs to The Knights of Columbus and the local Lions Club and is a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He and his wife Sharon live in Greenfield Center and are the proud parents of four children.
Daniel J. De Celle
A graduate of Hudson Valley Community College’s Mortuary Science program,
Daniel has been associated with the funeral profession in this area for the
past 23 years. Licensed as a funeral director in New York State since 1983 and
a lifelong Mechanicville resident, he is a member of Assumption-St. Paul’s
Church and has been involved with the city’s youth sports programs for
the past 10 years. He is currently District Administrator of the Little League
program and is a member of the Adirondack Funeral Directors Association. Married
and the father of two children, he is also spokesperson for the Junior Red Raider
Football program, a former baseball/basketball coach for the Mechanicville school
system and has served as a member of the Mechanicville-Stillwater area Chamber
of Commerce.
The staff and employees of Burke Funeral Home have also donated many hours
of continued volunteer service to many notable community organizations in addition
to those listed above. Some of these include fundraising efforts for Community
Hospice of Saratoga, American Red Cross and Bloodmobiles, Saratoga Hospital
Foundation, Wesley Foundation, American Heart Association, Cancer Society, Senior
Citizens Center, Catholic Charities, Domestic Violence, neighborhood associations,
Little Leagues, Boy and Girl Scouts, youth sports and programs, drug awareness,
adult services, Literacy Volunteers, and food pantries.
