|Malta, NY - Helen Mary Elizabeth Griffin Breen passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving and devoted family on Monday, October 15, 2012.
HM, as she was affectionately known, the daughter of the late Helen Mary Granger Griffin and George F. Griffin, was born on September 22, 1932 in Ballston Spa, NY. On that day, a soul entered the world that would touch many lives with humor, grace, and love.
At the age of 14, she met my “Mo Bheal As Thore” (love of my life), Leonard H. Breen, and on August 20, 1952 they began their 60 year journey of marriage and love.
With God’s help, they brought to life six cherished children and fourteen grandchildren.
HM retired from NY State after 20 years of service as a secretary to the OMRDD. One of her greatest loves in life was reading, a passion she helped to foster in her children and grandchildren. In her retirement years she enjoyed casino trips, pop culture, and celebrating special occasions. She rediscovered her artistic abilities, and enjoyed writing poetry. Her children and grandchildren were the centre and focus of her life, and she greatly enjoyed her role as the matriarch of the family at the annual Christmas Eve celebration and summer family vacations together. Her wit, wisdom, and humor were central to who she was and are cherished traits that will be remembered in family stories for generations to come.
Survivors include her husband Leonard; her sons Patrick (Jeanne-Marie), Daniel (Kelly), Leonard (Kristin), and Andrew (Linda), and daughters Nancy Breen Lamb (Michael) and Susan Batchelder (Jonathan). She cherished and was adored by her fourteen grandchildren, Brendan, Kelsey and Norah Breen, Rachael and Caitlin Lamb, Alex and Aidan Klein, Edwidge and Rowan Breen, Jenna and Molly Batchelder and Conor, Griffin, and Gavin Breen. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by her brother, William Griffin.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at the Corpus Christi Church, 2001 Route 9, Round Lake, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12noon Friday, Oct. 19, 2912 at the church.
Burial will follow at 2pm at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Richard Duff and the Saratoga Hospital ICU nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists and other staff for their extraordinary loving care during the final months of her life.
