Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a long life filled with love, we announce the passing of Adele E. McCoy, who passed away peacefully surrounded by people who loved her at Ingersoll Place Assisted Living on June 26, 2026, one day after celebrating her 93rd birthday.

Adele was born on June 25, 1933, in Jamestown, New York and was the daughter of Burton Edwards and Stella Gerlach. She lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community. Her warmth, gentle spirit, and quiet strength touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She graduated from Fredonia Teacher’s College (SUNY Fredonia) and taught elementary school.

She married Howard McCoy Jr. on December 29, 1956. They were married for 64 years until his passing in 2021. They raised their family in Saratoga Springs and attended The Church of St. Peter where they volunteered as Eucharistic Ministers and served in several other ministries for many years. Howard and Adele shared many adventures and travels together after retirement, including a move to Green Valley, Arizona in 2002. Adele moved back to Niskayuna NY in 2022 to be closer to family.

Family was the center of Adele’s life. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and loved. Always a teacher, she taught those around her the importance of compassion, service, and appreciating life’s blessings. Her legacy will live on through the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the love she shared so freely. She found joy in giving of herself through volunteer work, nurturing gardens, and traveling to experience new places and people.

She volunteered with many organizations including delivering Meals on Wheels for the Red Cross, she was a leader in Girl Scouts while her girls were growing up, and she spent many years volunteering at St Peter’s Church and School while her children attended. While living in Green Valley, Arizona, Adele continued her service to others through her parish Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. She was a people person, always interested in someone’s background or their families, always thoughtful and generous. Connection on a personal level was very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and an infant son Andrew. Living for 93 years, she endured the loss of many close friends and relatives.

Adele leaves behind her loving children: Timothy (Stacey), Karen Bright (Michael) of Ballston Spa, NY, and Molly Pinley (Ronald) of Arcadia, OK. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Joshua Burnette (Kaitlyn), Samantha Bright, and Sierra McCoy- Griffen, and was overjoyed and proud to be the great-grandmother of Easton James Burnette, who brought her immeasurable happiness.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 6th, 2026 at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs from 10:00 - 11:30am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Adele’s life at The Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs at 12pm noon. Burial to follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her friends and caregivers at Ingersoll Place Assisted Living in Niskayuna where she spent the last 3 ½ years, and to The Community Hospice staff whose support, compassion and kindness brought comfort, understanding and dignity to Adele during her final weeks. Both would be grateful for donations in Adele’s memory. Though she will be deeply missed, Adele’s love remains woven into the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a blessing.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Adele’s memory to: Saint Peter’s Needy Association (SPNA), 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs NY, or The Saratoga Ladies of Saratoga National Cemetery, SNC Garden Club, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville NY 12871.
