Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Albert Carl Gilmore passed away Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Wesley Health Care Center. He was 93. Born on April 2, 1917 in Theresa, New York, he was the late son of James Gilmore and Della Leeson Gilmore. He graduated from Evans Mills High School in upstate New York in 1932. Farming was his work for six years, followed by employment at the A&P Company, then 2 years in Army Tank Construction at the New York Air Brake. On March 24, 1940 Albert married Barbara Mae Horton, living happily married for almost 69 years. They had three children and lived in Adams Center for 25 years. They provided housing for local teachers and in March 1943 Albert entered the Air Corps in the Army. He became a radar instructor and was trained by the Weather Service, transferring to a Field Operation at Chanute Field, Ill. until his discharge in February 1946. For the next 14 years he worked in roofing construction in Plattsburgh, NY and Orlando, FL. and entered the consulting field in roofing in 1978. In 1980, Albert and Barbara formed a commercial roofing consulting service until 1990 in Atlanta, GA. They retired in the Saratoga area. Albert was a Boy Scout Leader for 15 years, serving as Boy Scout Master to President of Jefferson -Lewis Council. Barbara and Albert always worked as a team for several volunteer organizations, including children and adult church groups and Hospice of Saratoga They were members of the United Methodist Church of Saratoga Springs. He was a great fan of Jazz, going back to his early days of playing the saxophone in jazz combos for entertainment. Albert and Barbara loved to dance, especially to swing music. He was an avid skier and golfer for many years. They enjoyed travelling to many different places all over the world. In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, a brother, Alan and daughter-in-law, Judy Merrill Gilmore. He is survived by his three children: Carl Gilmore (Patricia) of Raleigh, NC; Cathleen Allman (Ross) of Orlando, FL. and Barbara Mae Humiston (Terry) of Saratoga Springs, as well as grandchildren Ryan (Kim) Gilmore, Karin (Mark) McMahon, Amy (David) Smesco, Wendy Allman, Jennifer Humiston and Sarah Humiston; and six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 pm Saturday June 12, 2010 at Saratoga Springs United Methodist Church, 175 Fifth Ave. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs(584-5373). Many special thanks to the staff of Springs and Victoria houses of Wesley Health Care Center for their exceptional care and kindness they gave to Albert during his stay there.
