IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred Edward
Sager
March 7, 1937 – April 23, 2021
Saratoga Springs, NY - On Friday, April 23, 2021, Alfred Edward Sager, loving father, grandfather, and partner, passed away peacefully at the age of 84 in Saratoga Springs, NY.
Al was born on March 7, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward and Madeline (Gfroerer) Sager. He attended Bishop Loughlin High School and worked for IBM for over 30 years. An avid athlete and sports fan, Al played basketball, softball, and later, golf, which he enjoyed with his many friends, in many locales. His favorite sports team was the New York Mets, after a childhood spent as a Brooklyn Dodgers fan.
After his retirement, Al enjoyed traveling with his partner, Alayne Pick, and their friends. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of U.S. roadways, thanks to his first job at the AAA, and was a dazzling trivia buff. His comic timing and hearty laugh are the stuff of legend, and will be sorely missed by his family and many acquaintances.
Al raised two daughters, Maureen and Dawn (who predeceased him in 2019), and son Edward. He also has a son, Bob Spampinato, whom he happily met in 2020.
He is survived by his grandchildren: Ashe Sager, Mia Sager, Hunter Johns, Esmee Johns, and Anya Sager, his sister, Teresa, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Unterreiner and Daniel J. Sager.
The family wishes to heartily thank the staff of Home of the Good Shepherd, where he received loving and excellent care through such challenging circumstances over the past year.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
