Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Alfred N. Santos (Alfie) passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024, with loved ones by his side after a long illness. He bravely fought to stay with the ones he loved.  He was 93 years old. Born April 13, 1931, a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs, New York he was the son of the late Gregorio F. Santos and Marion Pinto Santos.

Alfie was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School.  Upon graduation, he entered the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a radio operator aboard a subchaser during the Korean War. He continued as a Major in the Civil Air Patrol. After the Navy, Alfie earned a Bachelor's degree from Siena College.  After college graduation, he worked as an accountant for several years and then joined the Internal Revenue Service as a special agent.  Upon retiring from the IRS he worked for the New York State Commission on Government Integrity.  Alfie was a long-time member of the Elks and held a charter membership with the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge #161. Alfie was also an avid aviator and enjoyed spending time in the skies flying his Cesna airplane.  After retirement, he enjoyed life with his wife and "Darlin" Angela Santos.  Alfie and Angie were snowbirds and spent their winters enjoying the sunshine in Florida.  They also enjoyed traveling over the years and often vacationed with lifelong friends traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Alfie is preceded in death by his parents Gregorio and Marion Santos, his loving wife Angela (Terry) Santos, brother William (Bill) Santos and sister Marion F. (Tete) Desidoro. Survivors include his children Columbia Santos (Joshua), Gregory Santos (Jo-Ann), Colleen Baker (Michael) and Kevin Grogan (Patricia), eight grandchildren Columbia (Gagan) and Olivia Herzlinger, Patrick, Danny and Zach Baker and Bailey, Jenna, and Alyssa Grogan.  He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and loving extended family members and friends.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude, love and appreciation to his caregivers that also became friends: Sheri Williams, Danielle DiGuiseppe, Shannon Hartman and Laurie Ruggiero.  The family is truly grateful for the compassion, care and love you have shown to both our parents and we are forever grateful.  Your love, care and kindness brought sunshine to his life.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 3pm to 5pm., Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373) with an Elks service at 4pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, New York at 11am on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Burial with military honors will follow at the St. Peters Cemetery, 150 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York.
