Obituary

Wilton, NY- Amelia Daly Forbert, age 96 of Saratoga Springs NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at home.

Amy was born on November 10, 1927 in Lumberton, Mississippi to Sophie and Dan Daly. She graduated from Mississippi College for Women with a BA and was granted a Fulbright Scholarship for study in Paris, France.

She was hired as a researcher for Reader's Digest in New York City after her engagement to David J. Forbert.  Through her professional career as a researcher her employers included Consumer Reports, HBO, author Richard Collier and several financial newsletters. She was Research Editor for Women's Day during the 1980's. On a snowy day March 1, 1951 Amy married Dave and they lived a story book marriage for 72 years. They began their marriage in Yonkers, NY and after 6 years built a house in White Plains in expectation of the birth of their first child. After 48 years they decided to join their daughter, Suzanne, in Saratoga Springs, NY and built a new house there: From the ground up at age 77.

Amy was a member of the Presbyterian-United Church of Christ in Saratoga Springs and an active member of Saint Joseph Of Arimathea Episcopal Church in Elmsford NY prior to the move to Saratoga Springs. She was instrumental in the development and building of the White Plains YWCA in the 1960's, a Girl Scout leader, PTA and a volunteer in the Saratoga Hospital Library.

A woman ahead of her time, Amy had a career and a family when many women were staying home. Lessons about resilience, financial security and graciousness were instilled in her daughters as well as the value of education, travel and taking control of your own life. Sweet as candy but tough as nails when she needed to be. She never totally relinquished the dress code of the 1950's when a hat, gloves and shoes needed to match so she was always well dressed ~ even on Girl Scout camping trips. She never owned a pair of jeans.

Amy is survived by her husband of 72 years, David J. Forbert, her daughters Leslie Forbert Miller and Suzanne D'Iorio both of Saratoga Springs. Grandchildren James Anthony D'Iorio, Brooklyn, NY, Alexandra Lee D'Iorio, Saratoga Springs, Victoria Leigh Ferguson and son-in-law Phillip Ferguson, Alexandria, VA. Great grandchildren Amy Taylor Ferguson and Charles Taylor Ferguson of Alexandria, VA. Grandson David Taylor Miller preceded Amy in June 2010.

The family will be receiving those who knew Amy, as well as Dave and the family from 4PM-6PM with a brief service at 6PM to follow at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home at 628 Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Donations in lieu of flowers are welcomed and should be directed to Saratoga Springs Hospital.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Community Hospice of Saratoga & Washington County for their invaluable support for the last year.
