Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY- Amelia Ives, 72, known to friends as "Amy", passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020 at Wesley Health Care Center following a long illness.

Born April 5, 1947 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Lucy Desidoro.  Amy was also predeceased by her brother, Andrew Desidoro Jr.

After graduating from Saratoga Springs High School, she continued her education taking several college courses.  Amy had been employed by the Wesley Health Care Center as a housekeeper for 31 years where she made lifelong friends. When asked about her work, colleagues lovingly remembered how Amy would make everyone laugh, adding amusement to the daily responsibilities that were oftentimes overwhelming. Amy showed the patients and all with whom she came in contact the lighter side of life by always offering her great sense of humor.  All who knew Amy, recall her as a warm, kind, and loving person.  Even as she recently became a patient at Wesley, the staff and others remembered her fondly.  Throughout her stay at Wesley, many of her visitors were those with whom she had worked.  One Wesley staff member said it was as if Amy was returning home. As a life time communicant of St. Clement's Church in Saratoga, Amy was very much involved with the Outreach Program.  Even through personal hardships, Amy continued to be that fun loving, optimistic person to brighten everyone's day.  She made people laugh and helped to bring humor to those in need.  She was much beloved to all she met and knew. The Outreach members continued to support her in her time of need by visiting daily and keeping her spirits up.  The members became a lifeline for which Amy and her family were very grateful.  Even now, the mention of Amy's name brings a smile to all who knew her.  She was sociable and would share hilarious stories of her daily life that could brighten anyone's day.  She will be remembered for her boundless energy, hard work, love and zest for life, her compassionate and fun-loving nature, and her tremendous sense of humor.  Amy was a friend to all.

Survivors include her daughter, April Ives; granddaughter, Julie Schrom; sister's Jean Humiston and her husband Gerard of Queensbury; Lucy Sapp and her husband John of Fairport, N.Y.; and her twin, Angela Ovitt and her husband Oscar of Saratoga Springs.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am, Friday, September 18, 2020 at St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Following required health regulations, appropriate face coverings must be worn and social distancing practices will be followed.
