Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY Andrew Drew E. Farrell of Nelson Avenue, passed away Wednesday evening, April 6, 2011, at Saratoga Hospital. He was 67. Born on Dec. 27, 1943 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Andrew Cogan Farrell and Elizabeth (McLaughlin) Farrell. He grew up in Woodside, NY and resided in Connecticut for 25 years. He was employed for 31 years with Southern New England Telephone prior to retiring as a cable repairman. Following his retirement, he and his wife Mary (Otto) Farrell came to reside in Saratoga Springs. A Third degree member and past Deputy Grand Knight of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus, he served as an active volunteer with numerous council functions, activities and dinners. He also assisted as a moderator for the Saratoga Columbian Squires Circle 93, was a Fourth degree member of Saratoga Assembly 745 Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church. For his service, Drew was honored to be a recipient of the Knight of the Year Award, presented by K of C Council 246 Past Grand Knight Frank Scarpinato. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Catherine Cogan Farrell and his maternal grandparents, William and Mary Catherine Curley McLaughlin. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mary J. (Otto) Farrell of Saratoga Springs; his children, Drew D. Farrell of Woodbridge, CT, Kelly (Robert) Howser of Quaker Hill, CT and Connor A. Farrell of Saratoga Springs; two step-sons, Scott M. (Sarah) Sandora of Madison, CT and Adam J. (Jill) Sandora of Waterford, CT; nine grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Arlene Farrell (William) Russell of New Hyde Park and Saratoga Springs. His sister-in law, Joyce Kelly of Niantic, Ct. and brother-in-law, Richard (Virginia) Otto of Pahrump, NV, several cousins, Joan Farrell (Robert) Dema of Hilton Head, SC and Patricia DeBellis (Robert) Skrokov of Bayshore, NY and his most faithful companion, his golden retriever "Bailey". There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Avenue, by the Rev. Francis E. Sullivan, C.Ss.R.. Committal will be private. As Drew wished, following the Mass and throughout the day and early evening, friends are invited to gather at the Farrells home at 138 Nelson Avenue, to share memories of Drew and to celebrate his life. All members of the Knights of Columbus and Fourth Degree, including the Color Corps, will serve as an honorary escort at the funeral Mass and assemble at St. Clement's Church Tuesday morning at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Knights of Columbus, 50 Pine Rd., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 toward a scholarship to be established in Drews name.
