Andrew C. Manz IV, 92, of Saratoga Springs, NY passed into eternal life on December 11, 2023 following a brief illness.
Andrew was born on June 06, 1931 in Media, PA to the late Andrew C. Manz, III and Ellen (Ferris) Manz. Andrew grew up in the Fort Johnson/Amsterdam, NY area. He went to work with his father at the Palette Stone Quarry in Saratoga Springs, NY at the age of 14 years. Andrew attended college at the former Atlantic Union College in MA before enlisting in the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1952-1955. Following Andrew's honorable discharge from the Army he received a Master's Degree from the State University of New York at Albany and began his career in teaching. Andrew taught History for 31 years in the South Glens Falls Central School District until his retirement in 1987. Andrew loved teaching history and social studies. Andrew had a motto for his students "If you want the real news, read multiple independent sources." He was an active leader in the Teacher's Union and was an avid reader of all news and politics. After retirement he became active in local politics and served on the Town of Moreau Town Board as a Councilman.
Andrew was formerly married to Alice L. Greene and along with her is survived by their three daughters. Eileen Manz of Troy, NY; Ginny (Paul) Baird of Colorado Springs, CO and Cynthia (John) Kimmey of Clarksville, NY. He has four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Andrew is also survived by his brother Robert (Marion) Manz of West Springfield, MA along with several nieces and nephews. Andrew re-located to Chico and then Watsonville, California where he met, married and is survived by his wife Gwen (Schottman) Manz. Together they traveled extensively in many of the western states, especially appreciating the natural beauty of the National Parks. While in California he discovered a love of gardening and also volunteered as a driver for senior citizens in the area. Andrew and Gwen returned to NY settling in Saratoga Springs. He enjoyed the Adirondacks and especially Lake George where he spent so many years boating with family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral home service at 2pm on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders and the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR.)
