Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Anita C. (Ryan) Phillips, of West Fenlon St., passed away Friday (July 3, 2009) at her residence, following a long battle with cancer. She was 77. Born on Nov. 1, 1931 in Ballston Spa, NY, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Dorothy E. (Fremont) Ryan. A graduate of Ballston Spa High School, she had been employed by the General Electric Company. Anita served for 25 years as parish secretary for the Church of St. Peter, prior to her retirement in 1996 and later was a secretary at St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa for several years. She was a wonderful and beloved mother who had a generous and compassionate heart. She treasured spending time with her family and friends, and residing in her beloved city of Saratoga Springs. Throughout her illness, her courage, religious faith and desire to live life to the fullest was an inspiration to all who loved her. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, the late Robert E. Phillips, who died on Nov. 16, 1977. Survivors include her three children, Ellen M., Earl J. and Paula A. Phillips, all of Saratoga Springs; two sisters, Rhea Henne (Ray Garbarczyk) of Hernando, FL and Elizabeth (Thomas) Jurczak of Ballston Spa; two brothers, Dr. Thomas E. (Dolores) Ryan of Seattle, WA and John P. (Karen) Ryan of Westfield, NJ; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8pm Tuesday evening in the Chapel of the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Wednesday (July 8, 2009) in the Church of St. Peter. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you with gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth Valentine and staff for their attention and care. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Memorials may be made in her name to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211.
