Middle Grove, NY – Anna Mary Powers, 96, formerly of Middle Grove, NY passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022. Ann as she was known was born in the Bronx, NY on May 31, 1925, the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Charlotte Haidinger McVay.

In her youthful years, Ann worked for a national fan magazine where she met many celebrities. Ann was no wall flower and was one of the most outgoing, cheerful people you could ever want to meet with an infectious smile and laugh.  She went on to spend many years working in the Family Court System in New York City and even got to know Judge Judy. In 1962 Ann married the love of her life, John J. Powers. In 1964 they welcomed a daughter, Barbara Danielle.

Ann always had a special place in her heart for animals. Over her lifetime dogs, cats, and even horses had wonderful homes. Her love of all things horses is what brought her and John to Middle Grove in the 1970's. They purchased an 1800's horse farm where they had at one time 3 horses. Every summer she and Barbara were fixtures at the Saratoga thoroughbred racetrack. They knew all the jockeys and the announcers. Ann and John owned a race horse and knew many of the trainers as well, but her top priority throughout most of her marriage was her daughter. That love was manifest in all she did.  She was the primary caregiver for Barbara and even in her 80's she would be at the YMCA every day swimming.  Asked why and she would tell you that she wanted to stay young and healthy as long as she could so that she would be able to take care of Barbara and she did just that. There's a special place in heaven for Ann and now she's where she can spend eternity with her family.

Ann's daughter passed away in December 2020 and her husband John passed away in January 2021. She is survived by a loving nephew, John McVay and niece, Eileen Meehan (Walter).
