IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony (Tony)
Francis Scarano
April 12, 1941 – May 18, 2018
Saratoga Springs, NY -
Anthony (Tony) Francis Scarano was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on May 18, 2018 at Saratoga Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1941 and was the son of the late Jerry and Edith Scarano. He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Madeline Mangini-Scarano.
Tony was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved his family and the city of Saratoga Springs where he was a lifelong resident. His favorite pastimes included horseracing, Yankee baseball, Seinfeld reruns, and talking about current events and politics.
Tony was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy, St. Bonaventure University, and received a Master's Degree from Siena College. He was a social studies teacher for over 30 years at Saratoga Springs High School where he was beloved by both students and faculty. He was also a coach for the Saratoga Springs High School Softball team. Tony also worked as a maitre d' at the Saratoga Harness Track and Saratoga Race Course. His retirement years were spent attending events for his grandchildren, spending winters in Florida, and spending time with his 5-year companion, Joan Cestaro.
Tony is survived by his brother Jerry (Jenny) Scarano, Jr. of Saratoga Springs and by his companion Joan Cestaro of South Glens Falls. Tony was the loving father of Gina (Tom) Osika of Queensbury, Beth (Anthony) Fazzone of Latham, and Michele (Glenn) Harland of Glenville. He was grandfather to Tommy, Jerod, and Jonathan Osika, Nicholas, Jenna, and Nathan Fazzone, and Madeline and Lindsay Harland in addition to many nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to Saratoga EMS, Frank Spensieri, and Anne Marie Piccolo as well as the Cardiac Catheterization Unit at Saratoga Hospital who all cared for Tony during his final hours of life.
Relatives and friends may call from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Burke/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373).
A funeral home service will be celebrated at 1pm by Rev. Robert Harrison, C.Ss.R and burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave., Saratoga Springs.
As befitting his caring nature, Tony had agreed long ago to be an organ and tissue donor at the time of his death. He also was a regular blood and platelets donor so in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Red Cross (33 Everett Road, Albany, NY 12205).
