Saratoga Springs, NY - Arthur T. Robinson of Granite Street, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Saratoga Hospital succumbing to Covid- 19. He was 99 years old.
Arthur was born in Ballston Spa, NY; the son of Isabella Colamaria and Arthur W. Robinson. He spent his early childhood years in Ballston Spa, joining the Army at the age of 18 to serve his country. He was also a member of the National Guard in Saratoga Springs, NY. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations with Headquarters Company, 3 rd Batallion, 105 th Infantry Regiment, 27 th Infantry Division as a Toxic Gas Handler in the Makin, Saipan, and the Okinawa Campaigns. He was one of a few survivors from his battalion in the battle on Saipan where he was shot through both legs. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead, American Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. Arthur was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
After the war, he met and married Bessie M. Brownell, predeceased, after nearly 62 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his parents and sister, Mary Brownell. Through the years, he was employed at the Tannery in Ballston Spa and International Paper Company in Corinth, N.Y.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Robinson of Amsterdam, Gail (Thomas) Rielly of Saratoga Springs and his son Thomas Robinson of Saratoga Springs, who was his caretaker for the last few years. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren: Thomas (Ashley) Rielly, Cheryl (James) Galarneau, Lisa (Christopher) Meetze, and Kristina (Geoffrey) Delbridge; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from11am to 12noon, Monday, October 25, 2021 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5372) with a military funeral service immediately following at noon. Burial with military honors will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
