Saratoga Springs, NY - Arthur H. Schehr, of Frederick Drive, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015, at his home while under the loving care of his family and the Community Hospice of Saratoga. Arthur was born November 23, 1932, in Queens, New York, the son of John and Mary (Silverberg) Schehr. He was the youngest of five children. A devoted husband and father, Art served with pride in the United States Air Force and went on to a rewarding and enriching career as a Flight Service Specialist within the Federal Aviation Administration. In 1957 while working two jobs, Arthur earned his flight service dispatcher's certification at New York University. An avid painter, Arthur enjoyed sharing his artwork with family and friends alike, each piece delivered with a tale and thoughtful story. Art enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, the New York City Ballet, Philadelphia Orchestra, all things aviation, and an occasional round of golf with friends. He had a swing just like Arnold Palmer's.' A keeper of many things and hidden talents, dear to him were his gardens and goldfish ponds, passions he shared when friends spent time visiting Arthur and Mary, his beloved wife of six decades. A kind and gentle man, Arthur will be remembered as possessing a warm smile, a big heart, bright blue eyes, and an unrivaled capacity to tell stories to all around him. He will be missed. A committed catholic, Arthur was a member of St. Clement's Church in Saratoga Springs and a regular attendee of the Saturday, 4:00 pm mass where he enjoyed the company of friends whom he loved dearly. Arthur was predeceased by two of his brothers, John and Robert and his sister Marie Jacobson. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Lasher) Schehr; his three children, Michael (Kathleen) Lonergan, Teresa (Chris Podeswa) Schehr, and Barbara (Jim) McDonough; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, his brother, Tommy and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Community Hospice of Saratoga and Dr. Farrell for their unrelenting attention and kindness, compassion and warmth throughout this difficult time.
