Obituary

Amsterdam, NY -Audrey Marie Parker, 76, of Amsterdam and Bridgeport, CT passed away peacefully at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs, NY on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Audrey was born in Bridgeport, CT, the daughter of Elizabeth (Balog) and Alfred B. Parker.  She grew up in Nichols, CT on a farm that was her family's business, Parker's Dairy. She was a graduate of Stratford High School.  After marrying and having 3 children, she returned to school, and received an Associate's Degree in Nursing from the University of Bridgeport (CT) and completed most of the coursework for her Baccalaureate Degree in English.

Audrey spent much of her career as a Registered Nurse working in the Emergency Department of Bridgeport Hospital. Following that her varied career included work in several organizations as a visiting nurse, occupational health nurse, and nursing home supervisor. She retired in 2007 to move to New York to be closer to her daughter and her grand-daughters who were the joy of her life.  She was also an active member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Amsterdam, serving as a lay minister.

Survivors include her daughter Robin DeValt and son-in-law Sean Pickard;  her son Adam DeValt; her beloved granddaughters, Gwendolyn MacDonald (Mark) and Moriah Pickard; her brothers, Gary (Carla) Parker and Donald (Dorothy ) Parker and her former spouses, William J. Devalt Jr. and Thomas S. Tesla.  She was predeceased by her daughter Bethany DeValt and multiple cherished pets.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church, 2000 Main St., Stratford CT on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at 10am. Burial will be at Nichols Cemetary, Nichols CT.

Audrey was a true lover of all creatures great and small and during her lifetime had rescued many dogs and cats.  Please make memorial donations to the The SPCA of Upstate NY, 588 Queensbury Ave., Queensbury, NY 12804 or The Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111 or to a local animal rescue organization of your choice.

Audrey's family is grateful to all the caring staff and volunteers at St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and The Mansion at South Union in Cambridge NY who provided dignity and quality of life during her illness. Special thanks goes to the wonderful staff at Wesley Health Care Center and Community Hospice of Saratoga who made her last days comfortable and peaceful and surrounded in love.
