Saratoga Springs, NY Augustus Gus Joseph Ross, Jr. passed away Thursday (Feb. 12, 2009) at Saratoga Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 86. Born on May 28, 1922 in Mechanicville, NY, he was a son of the late Augustus Joseph and Florence (DellaMorte) Ross, Sr. and attended Mechanicville schools. He had worked as a tool and die maker for the General Electric Company for 36 years. Also employed as a bartender for over 30 years at Mangino's Restaurant, Gus worked many years at Woodcock's Eastside Garage. He enjoyed gardening and as a talented handyman and carpenter, assembled his own automobile, built a garden tiller and was an energetic putterer. He was a member of the Saratoga Springs Senior Citizens Center and former board member, having received a plaque for his volunteer efforts of many years on behalf of area seniors. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother and four sisters. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Isabell Lois (Shaw) Ross; three children, Carol (husband, Kenneth) Pulver of Florida, Augustus J. (wife, Diane) Ross and Barbara (husband, Timothy) Cassidy, all of Saratoga Springs; eight grandchildren, Leslie DAngelico, Casey Pulver, Jennifer Ross, Kailynne Neverett, Whitney Orozco, Augustus Ross, IV, Kyla Jenkins and Kaitlin Cassidy; and five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4pm Sunday afternoon at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway. Funeral services will be conducted at 10am Monday at the funeral home by Rev. Father Neil Draves-Arpaia. Burial will follow in St. Peters Cemetery, West Avenue.
