Obituary

Saratoga Springs - Barbara Ann Pace MacFarland passed away peacefully at the age of 83 surrounded by her family on June 23, 2023. Barbara is now reunited with the love of her life, Joseph W. MacFarland.

Barbara was born on July 14, 1939. She was a lifetime resident of Saratoga Springs and attended St. Peter's Academy, graduating the Class of 1957 and formed many long-lasting friendships. Over the years she worked at the Telephone Company, Saratoga Hospital, and The Saratogian. She proudly joined her husband Joe at their family owned business, Wells Pharmacy while happily raising their 5 children.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother she was a true matriarch and the nucleus of the family. Barbara's greatest joy in life was spending time with family, friends, her children's friends and her beloved dog Joesie. She hosted many Sunday dinners, pool parties, holidays, New Year's Eve parties, weekly card games and clam bakes. Barb loved to go shopping and always took pride in her appearance. She enjoyed having cocktails, going to lunch, getting manicures and pedicures, watching TV, family bike rides, knitting, ceramics, playing games on her i-pad, cooking, baking, and feeding everyone. She loved with her whole heart and was a great listener. Barbara always gave you her advice and guidance whether you wanted it or not.

Barbara was an active volunteer for the school PTA, Miss Softball Saratoga, The American Cancer Society, The American Heart Association and Multiple Sclerosis.

She was affectionately referred to as Barb, Barbie, Barbara, Pacie, Mom, Gram, Grammy, Grandma and Aunt Barb.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Joseph W. MacFarland, and her parents Ethan Pace and Marie B. Coppernoll Pace Baker.

She is survived by her daughter Linda L. MacFarland, her son David W. MacFarland Sr. (Lisa), and her daughters Mary Kate MacFarland (Steven), Jo-Ann M. MacFarland O'Reilly (Michael), and Carrie J. MacFarland.

Barb loved spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Kyle H. Priester, Kaela L. Priester, Emalee W. Priester (Zach), Reid K. Priester, David W. MacFarland Jr. (Lauren), Tyler J. MacFarland, Ryan P. O'Reilly (Mallory), Dylan M. O'Reilly (Oksana), Damien S. DeCrescenzo, Aiva J. Priester and Liam M. O'Reilly.

Barbara is survived by her sister Debra Pace Vecchio (Alex), brother Robert Pace (Julie), sister Mary Lou Baker and her cousins; Teresa Joan Harper, Robert McCarthy (Ann) and Kevin McCarthy (Georgianna) and their families.

She is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews; Heather A. MacFarland Franke (Kevin), Sean E. MacFarland (Keri), Hillary A. MacFarland Chase (Russell), Craig M. Buonora (Lori) and their families.

Barbara's love, laughter and compassion will be dearly missed by her family, her best friend Joesie and many lifelong friends.

A graveside ceremony will be celebrated at Greenridge Cemetery on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 11am.
