Obituary

Saratoga Springs - Barbara Ann Pettigrew, born July 17th, 1943, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Glens Falls Hospital, a day after Valentine’s day, on February 15th, 2026.

Barbara, ever faithful, was raised in a former church turned home, the daughter of William and Katherine Pettigrew. From that home in Ketchums Corners, she made many friends, including her lifelong friend Louise (Travis) Stevens.

She started her education walking to a one-room schoolhouse at the age of 4, before eventually graduating Stillwater High School in 1960, at the age of 16. After graduation, Barbara became a paralegal at La Belle Law Offices for 38 years, which gave her an endless source of stories to regale her family with, to her son Gregory’s delight and chagrin both.

During her middle years, she took more focus on exploring the outdoors, enjoying seasonal camping, snowmobiling, and even the occasional motorcycling. She traveled to visit family in Germany several times, and was startled by a fishhead in her paella in Spain.

Barbara retired in 1998 to spend more time with her newly born grandson, Curtis, dedicating one day every week for the next 12 years to host him at her home, and regularly hosting him and his friend Hannah for games, activities, and outings all the way until he moved away for college.

Shortly after her retirement, she reconnected with her old high school sweetheart, John Clements, and they forged a two-and-a-half-decade long relationship, spending the majority of each day in each other's company, with many idle discussions in their sunlit living room, sharing glasses of wine with evening meals.

Barbara spent her retirement years caring for her home and her husband, keeping them both clean, happy, and healthy. Ingrained with a strong sense of interior design, her home kept up with each season, complete sets of decorations transforming rooms from autumnal convalescence to Christmas cheer. Sometimes her bathrooms echoed with the beach, and other times were beset by midnight cats.

Her decorations were only rivaled by her collections - spoons, hummel figures, steins, all could be found in displays throughout her home. She enjoyed her faith, her gardening, and her mystery novels. After getting her cat, her books frequently had a feline flair, and she spoiled the cat rigorously, with four-course felid meals on offer at any given time.

In her final years, she and John enjoyed game nights with her cadre of friends, jigsaw puzzles, and visits from her friends, her son, her grandson, and her stepchildren.

She is survived by her son Greggory Shea, and her grandson Curtis Shea.
