Corinth, NY - Barnet "Barney" Louis Jasper, 83, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born June 21, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of Augusta (Berger) and Morris Jasper. Barney was predeceased by his parents and an uncle, Leon Jasper.
Barney lived at the Worth Road IRA until moving to the Corinth IRA due to health concerns. He attended the Saratoga Bridges Wilton Day Hab and the Adirondack Day Hab for many years. Barney was well loved by the many staff who were privileged to know him throughout the years.
Barney touched the hearts of so many people throughout his life with his gentle, quiet demeanor and sense of humor. Though reserved, Barney was affectionate with those who knew him and expressed this by laying his head on their shoulder, hugs and his infectious giggle. In his younger days, he loved playing jokes on staff. His favorite joke consisted of handing his Connect Four partner the exact opposite colored checker than what was requested, each and every time they asked. Barney loved watching staff's reaction, which inevitably led to much amusement and laughter on his part!
Barney loved games, especially his beloved Connect Four. He enjoyed spending quiet time outdoors in the garden or on the porch swing. Barney enjoyed gardening, especially pulling "weeds". According to Barney, all plants in the garden were potential weeds and he wasn't shy about removing them! Oftentimes, he would present staff with a bouquet of whatever they just planted along with a big smile and hearty laugh. As his health concerns increased, Barney was comforted by simple, quiet pursuits such as watching his favorite TV shows, relaxing to music, enjoying a sunny day from his bedroom window and watching the fish in his aquarium. He handled his declining health with grace and quiet dignity.
Barney's staff would like to express how blessed and honored they are to have shared in his life. Thank you Barney for so many unforgettable, heartfelt moments. Say not in grief he is no more, but in thankfulness that he was-Hebrew Proverb.
Friends are invited to honor Barney's memory at a graveside service on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 1:30pm, Temple Beth El Cemetery in Moreau, followed by a gathering at the Corinth IRA.
