Obituary

Wilton, NY - Bernadette M. Bowes of Timbira Drive, passed away at home on Tuesday (Oct. 18, 2011). She was 88. Born on August 28, 1923 in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Peffer Meenahan. Bernadette attended Queens College and worked as a manager at Exxon Corporation for 40 years. She was involved in implementing and administering Exxons first computerized tracking system for oil tankers across the world. Bernadette was married to Thomas R. Bowes, whom she knew from childhood, for 58 years. Bernadette and Tom were residents of Fresh Meadows, NY for many years and moved to Wilton in 2006. They also maintained a summer home on Friends Lake in Chestertown, NY for 38 years and had many happy family gatherings there. In addition to her husband Tom, Bernadette is survived by her cousins, Virginia McNulty of Highland Lakes, NJ, George James of Woodside, NY, Mary Payette of Sarasota, FL, Thomas Kirwan of Pennington, NJ and Carol Kirwan Skorez of Canton, GA; her sister-in law, Joan Bowes, of Hobe Sound, FL; her nephews, Brian Hobbs of Princeton, MA, David Hobbs of Jamaica Plains, MA, Mark Hobbs of Raleigh, NC and Douglas Hobbs of Waltham, MA and her nieces, Debbie Hobbs of Saratoga, CA and Wendy Hobbs of Foster City, CA. Graveside services will be held at 11am Friday November 4, 2011 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway(584-5373), Saratoga Springs.
