Saratoga Springs, NY Bernard N. Companion of Saratoga Springs passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010 with his loving family at his side, after a brief illness. He was 84. Born on March 16, 1926 in Winooski, VT, he was a son of the late Leo and May (Provost) Companion. Bernard was a long time resident of the capital district. He was a veteran of both the United States Army and Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Bernard was a long time entertainment agent and business man. Bernard loved to travel, go camping, listen to Country music and playing Bingo. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Ruth Chamberlain Companion; two sons, Harley Companion and Robert Companion; a daughter-in-law, Mary Companion and a nephew, Leo Provost. Bernard is survived by his loving companion, Elsie Ebert; three sons, John Companion and his wife Cindy, Garry Companion and fianc Linda Hurd, Kenneth Companion and his wife Lenna; a daughter, Peggy Vojnar and her husband Bob and two daughter-in-laws Sandy Companion Simmons and Nancy Companion. Bernard was lovingly known as Pip to his 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call from 10-noon on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A funeral service will be conducted at noon in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in the family plot in North Milton Cemetery following the service.
