Saratoga Springs, NY - Bertha D. Kievit, previously of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Wesley Health Care Center after a short illness. She was 83. Born in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Dwyer) Duval. Growing up, Bertha attended Saratoga Springs Public Schools and graduated from Douglas College in New Brunswick, NJ with a degree in Home Economics. She enjoyed movies, cooking, reading and the theater. Bertha especially loved playing bridge. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Saratoga Springs. In addition to her parents, Bertha is predeceased by her loving husband Robert S. Kievit who passed away on Dec. 5, 2007; and three sisters, Grace Noonan, Rosemary Misurelli and JoAnn Keller. Survivors include her son, William and his wife Kristin Kievit of Farmington, CT and her daughter, Margaret and her husband Philip Sfraga of Wayne, NJ; five grandchildren, Stephanie and Mary Beth Sfraga, Robert, Alison and Amy Kievit; one great-grandchild, Tessa Wiser and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11am on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in the Chapel at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at11am in the Church. The Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor, will officiate. Private interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 220 Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
