Saratoga Springs, NY - Beryl Ives Haugk of Prestwick Chase passed away peacefully in her sleep at The Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa this past August. Beryl was 101 years old. Born on May 26, 1913 in Kingston, Jamaica, she was the eldest of seven children born to the late Stanley Leonard and Barbara Cammac Thompson. Beryl, or Bea as she was affectionately known to many, arrived in New York in her early twenties to further her education studying nursing at Lincoln School of Nursing and the University of the State of New York. Beryl worked as a nurse for 30 years and then as Director of Continuing Education at Kings County Psychiatric Hospital on Long Island. She married Charles Joseph Haugk of New York on March 14, 1970 and the two remained happily married for 17 years until his passing in 1987. After retiring, Beryl and Charles moved to Ballston Spa where she continued her commitment to serving others by volunteering with Saratoga Hospital. In addition to her parents and husband, Beryl was predeceased by her sisters, Thelma(Dottie) Hamilton and Dorothy Cooke and brothers, Osbert(Bertie) and Horace Thompson. Beryl is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Fox (Jamaica) and Barbara Burke (UK), many nieces, nephews, and loving friends that span the globe. Beryl is remembered as active and lighthearted. She was a good friend who loved to travel and had an amazing sense of fashion and style. Those who knew her loved her smile and her laugh. She will be missed by many. Beryl's request was for a private service back in her birthplace, Jamaica. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J.
