Saratoga Springs - Betty (Boyer) Platt, 98, of Saratoga Springs, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, January 29, 2021.

Born on November 13, 1922 in Middleburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Clay and Beulah Boyer. Betty graduated from high school and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving at Bethesda Naval Hospital. She met her husband Ronald B. Platt while serving in the Navy. They married and settled in Saratoga Springs to raise their family. Betty retired from Skidmore College where she worked for many years in the chemistry department serving students and faculty.

Betty was a longtime member of Saratoga Springs Hospital Guild, receiving an award for over 10,000 hours of service. She was gifted in sewing and knitting, sharing her creations with family and friends. Betty loved playing cards and was a member of a card group with her longtime friend Mildred Meeker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed having many family dinners.  She loved flowers and birds and she liked to sit on her porch and watch the hummingbirds. She enjoyed her dogs and visits from her grand dogs. She spent many happy winters in Florida with her family.

Betty will be remembered as an independent woman devoted to her family. She lived life with dignity and elegance always willing to share her abundance of practical wisdom.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband Ronald B. Platt; her brother Dick and his wife Lois Boyer.

She is survived by her son Jeffrey (Alice Richmond) of Glens Falls and Placida, FL; her daughter Rebecca Durand of Rotterdam; her granddaughter Jennifer (Michael) Wagner of Ballston Spa; her niece Ellen and nephew David Boyer and their children.

Betty's family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Community Hospice for their loving care.

Due to the ongoing pandemic a private service will be held at 12:45pm on Thursday February 4, 2021 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373). Burial with military honors will be private at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
