Saratoga Springs, NY – Carmella B. Mangona, 95 a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Saratoga Hospital.
She was born July 16, 1925 to the late Peter and Jenny Carbone in Ballston Spa, where she was also raised. Carmella attended Ballston Spa High School. On May 2, 1948, she married John J. Mangona, and they shared 62 years together.
Carmella worked for the Grand Union grocery store as a cashier. She enjoyed traveling and visited Aruba, Hawaii, islands in the Caribbean and many places in the continental U.S. She enjoyed watching the horse races at the Saratoga Race Track where she had a private box. Carmella loved to crochet, bird watch and shop. She belonged to the Saratoga Springs Senior Citizen Center and is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ballston Spa.
In addition to her parents, Carmella was predeceased by her husband John J. Mangona, who died May 21, 2010; her sisters Argentine Zapolski, Janet DeSantis, and Mary Carbone; and her brothers Angelo, Armeto, Augustine and Armadale Carbone.
Carmella loved nothing more than spending time with her family. She was the mother of Nancy DellaPorta (Brian) and John A. Mangona (Nancy); grandmother to Michael DellaPorta, Tricia Strachman (Matthew), Thomas DellaPorta (Lisbely), Melissa Jones(Jonathan), Matthew Mangona(Jessica), Rebecca Mangona and Erinn Mangona; and great-grandmother of Nathan and Nicholas DellaPorta, Andrew Strachman, Stella and Henry Jones and Reya Mangona.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Friday November 13, 2020 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373). Face coverings and social distancing will be required.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Saturday November 14, 2020 in St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, by the Rev. Francis R. Vivacqua, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
