Saratoga Springs, NY - Catherine M. Killion, better known as Kay to her friends and fans, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
Catherine was born on January 23, 1922 in Glasgow, Scotland to Hugh Dykes Morton and Christina McDonell Morton. Her parents immigrated to Schenectady in 1924 where her father became a pioneer at the turbine division of General Electric Co. Kay graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. She was employed at GE before her marriage to Francis S. Killion in 1942. Together they raised six children.
In her youth, Kay learned to dance and developed her natural singing voice. During her high school years she performed at the CYO and school events. In the late 40's through the 1950's she became a renowned tri-city vocalist performing with her husband and brother-in-law with the Killion Orchestra. In the early days of live television at WRBG in Schenectady, she was a vocalist with the "After Six Seven" on the "Television Showcase" variety show with Garry Stevens. Kay's voice and smile always lit up the room.
Since 1948, she and her family enjoyed summers at their cottage on Galway Lake. She was an avid seamstress, knitter, and crossword puzzler. For much of the last ten years, Kay resided at Wesley's Embury Apts. in Saratoga Springs where she often regaled her fellow residents with holiday songs and spontaneous renditions of the Big Band classics including her favorite, "Time After Time". For her remaining years, Kay was lovingly cared for by her daughter Carolyn.
Catherine's family expresses their deep appreciation for the care and support given to Catherine from Community Hospice of Saratoga Springs during these last months; especially AJ, Karen M., Karen B., Donna, Stacie and Rosalie.
