Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Charles R. Blunt, 88, of Lake Luzerne, NY entered into rest Tuesday, September 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Charles was born November 9, 1935 in Syracuse, NY.  He was raised by his devoted mother, Margo Blunt Macklin who in the 1940's opened the first women-owned beauty vocational school in Virginia, demonstrating a strong streak of independence and perseverance that would be found in her son. As a young man Charles loved athletics and participated in many sports and activities, including wrestling and football, in military school. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. in 1954.

Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a Golden Dragon with the 14th Regiment in the 25th Infantry Division where he obtained the rank of Technical Staff Sergeant. Using the benefits of the GI Bill, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1960 with a degree in Mathematics, thus beginning a legacy of devout Penn State alumni and fans. He started his career working at HRB Singer. Charles then worked at Penn State where he linked information systems between the campuses.  Upon leaving Penn State, Charles retired from the State University of New York after a long career as an Associate-Vice Chancellor where he implemented the intranet for faculty and administration between the SUNY universities.

As an outdoorsman, he skied, hiked, biked and was an avid golfer. Charles also spent much of his "free" time working on his farms in both Pennsylvania and New York and was known for applying his mathematics degree toward over-engineering his projects like the horse stalls, wood sheds, car ports, decks and retaining walls he designed and built with his family.  Charles also loved family games, particularly ones like Chess and Cathedral that are both competitive and require logic, two traits shared with Charles.

In retirement, Charles journeyed with his wife extensively across the United States and Canada where they found many great adventures, often by taking the road less traveled.

Charles was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who is loved by his family and friends.

Charles is predeceased by his mother, Margo Blunt. He is survived by his loving wife, Arden; daughter, Dolly and her husband, Jesse; son, Rob and his wife, Laura (Cassie, Rachael); son, Chris and his wife, Amy (Jon, Katie, Jenna, Krystal, Corey, Steven, Robbie, Christopher); son, Steve and his partner, Jolene (Ryan, Hailey, Ava).
