Greenfield Center, NY - Charles Emmett King, Jr., of Southwest Pass, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 90. Born on Jan. 7, 1921 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Anna E. (Tierney) King, Sr., and was a 1939 graduate of St. Peter's Academy, where he enjoyed the subjects of math and science and played as a pitcher on the baseball team. He worked for Van Raalte & Company and left employment to enter military service at the onset of World War Two. A seaman first class, he served with the US Coast Guard aboard the USS Peoria (PF67) on duty in the North Atlantic and was a recipient of the American, European-African-Middle Eastern campaigns and World War Two victory medals. He also worked at American Locomotive Company (ALCO) and retired from Saratoga Knitting in 1983. He was a life member and 1964 post commander of Gurtler Bros. Post 420 Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Martha's Vineyard Post 9261. He was also a former member of the VFW's Military Order of Cooties (MOOC) Pup Tent #33. An avid baseball fan, he always enjoyed the outdoors, pet dogs and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Miss Ann E. King and his brother, John H. King. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marilyn A. (Christopher) King, whom he married on May 12, 1951; four children, John J. (Betty) King of Greenfield, Ed C. King of Saratoga Springs, Joanne M. (Bruce) Neubaur of Lake George and Michael T. (Julie) King of Wilton; his grandchildren, Jennifer M. Frolish, Sean P. King, Owen M. Weber, Sydney E. King, Benjamin M. King and Harris A. King; and his great-grandchildren, Noah P. Frolish, Samuel J. Frolish and Aiden M. Weber and a close sibling of the family, John "Ted" Butler of Wilton. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Wednesday, March 16, 2011at the Burke/Bussing Funeral Homes, by the Rev. Thomas J. Kelly, pastor of St. Mary's Church in Ballston Spa, NY.
