Obituary

Moreau - Charles (Chuck) Rowson passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025, with this beloved Jan of 57 years by his side.

He is survived by nephews Richard Unnerstall (Mary Ann) and Michael Unnerstall, nieces Mary Ferry and Carol Stimac.

Chuck was born March 25, 1933 in St. Louis, MO. He served in the Army from 1953 through 1955. He liked the Army as he was on the Army's boxing team which enabled him to see Germany's countryside and meet the local people.

After the service and back in St. Louis he worked at McDonald Douglas Aircraft. A time to hone such skills as handball, racquetball, tennis and ping pong. A handball buddy introduced him to the carpet industry which ultimately led to the 1968 Miami, FL era where he met Jan Kropp. They lived in South Florida for 31 years sharing several businesses including carpeting and design work.

At the age of 35 he took up golf and rumor has it he was a 1 or 2 handicap. Bonus time: Chuck meets a fellow from Ft. Edward, Nick Becker. Nick tells Chuck how great his neck of the woods are, including the Saratoga Race Track. In 1998 a 1928 Chestnut log house on 81acres on Old Saratoga Road was purchased by he and Jan. The move to the log house was June 28, 1999. On August 18, 1999, a new member was welcomed to the family: Godfry, a 1930 Model A Ford.

Due to the many summer trips to this area a really great friend base was established. Godfry had his own base of followers and those folks became friends. In 2000 Chuck saw an ad for Prospect Child & Family Center for the Festival of Trees and the next thing you know Chuck and Jan are Chairs for the raffle for the event. In 2025 it was their 25th year of fundraising for Prospect Center. Volunteering for Prospect Center's volleyball tournament on Million Dollar Beach, and all those bikini's was not considered tough duty for Chuck.

Chuck loved his YMCA friends. The day he played five sets of racquetball at age 85, was the day he developed a drop foot and had to learn the rules of pickleball. His treasured the card his "Y" friends gave him on his 90th birthday that said "the Man, the Myth and the Legend" - which made him so happy. He also had a great support team for all the things most men know and he didn't.

His love of people and golf were the perfect combo for the job he sought and got at the Exit 17 driving range. He was always ready to smile and tell a humorous tale. He will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Chuck's life will be held at the Queensbury Hotel on Sunday, April 13th from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Friends are welcome.
