Saratoga Springs, NY - Cheryl L. LaBelle, of Benton Drive, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was 64. Born on April 14, 1946 in Bridgeport, CT she is the daughter of William H. Northrup and the late Dorothy (McDermott) Northrup. In addition to her father, survivors include her husband of more than 30 years, the Hon. Lawrence J. LaBelle, former Saratoga Springs City Court Judge, and their daughter, Tracey L. LaBelle, all of Saratoga Springs. Cheryl attended and graduated from Linton High School, Albany Junior College and then from Russell Sage College with a BS in Physical Education. She went on to teach at Saratoga Springs, Catskill and Schalmont High Schools, and then she taught physical education at St. Clement's Elementary School, which was most dear to her as her daughter Tracey had attended there. Mrs. LaBelle also traveled the country while working in sales for the Johnson Wax Company and 3M. Early in her life, she was an exercise rider at the thoroughbred track. Cheryl exercised horses for trainer Mackenzie Miller. She and her husband conducted an annual racing celebration during the racing season at their home for many years entertaining several prominent owners, trainers, jockeys and others connected with thoroughbred racing. They also attended many of the racing celebrations during the summer racing meets. They would often be seen at the Saratoga Race Track Clubhouse, where they were box holders and at the Reading Room together. Cheryl's family would like to extend a special thanks to the Ellis Hospital, especially the nurses and other employees that gave her outstanding professional care during her illness. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at Our Lady's Chapel in the parish center of St. Clement's Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday in St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Avenue, by the Rev. Francis E. Sullivan, C.Ss.R. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
