Clare Mary Robb Cowell

August 13, 1933 - December 3, 2024

Saratoga Springs, NY - Clare Mary Robb Cowell found her place among the angels on Tuesday, December 3 at the age of 91. She was surrounded by her loving children.

Clare, born on August 13, 1933 in the small town of Hardwick, Vermont, was the daughter of William and Nora Gallagher Robb. She loved growing up in that tiny hamlet. Her childhood gave her a sense of community with life-long friends. Clare was happiest when she visited Hardwick or reminisced of her wonderful memories. She holds the honor of being the 1950 Tulip Queen!

Clare graduated from Hardwick Academy in 1951 and attended Trinity College in Burlington, Vermont where she studied Business Education. Upon graduation in 1955, she returned to the Northeast Kingdom teaching Business at the Greensboro High School.

While at Trinity, she met the love of her life, Tom Cowell, and married in 1956. Over their 64 years of marriage, they raised a family of six children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, who lovingly called her Grammy. They will miss her loyal support on the athletic fields, theater productions, and dance recitals.

Clare returned to her profession when her children were grown and she and Tom moved to Saratoga Springs. She was a Teacher's Aide in the Saratoga Springs City School District working at Dorothy Nolan and Division Street schools. She worked with Special Needs students and felt fortunate to be part of their lives. For fun, she worked the Give Aways at the Saratoga Raceway and actually recruited some of her children and grandchildren to join her.

Upon retirement, Tom and Clare became snowbirds enjoying 20 plus years wintering in Ft. Myers, Florida where she volunteered at the Goodwill Center in Immokalee. She loved the annual family vacations in Ocean City, Maryland. She especially took pride in watching her family grow in numbers each year. Known for her humor and quick wit, Clare created memories that are filled with love and laughter.

Clare is survived by her six children: Kathleen (Thomas) Fisch, Thomas (Carol) Cowell, Patricia Ivory, Colleen (Dana) Papazoni, Maureen (James) Robbins, Michael (Andrea) Cowell and their families, and one brother John (Connie) Robb. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, sisters Mary Patricia Robb and Barbara Whalen, brother William Robb, Jr., and son-in-law Timothy Ivory.

The family would like to thank the professional staff of The Home of Good Shepherd for their loving care of their mother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10 at 10:00 am at St. Clement's Church in Saratoga Springs, NY. Interment will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
