IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Corinna S.
Bishop
November 23, 1935 – February 7, 2025
Falmouth, Maine - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Corinna Sigler Bishop on February 7, at the age of 89, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Corinna, or Corrie, had a gracious and indomitable spirit to the end. We remember her as the thread that pulled together many parts of life for her blended family and the Saratoga Springs community.
Corinna was born in Maryland on November 23, 1935. The family later moved to Maplewood, New Jersey, where she graduated from Maplewood High School. Those high school years set the stage for Corinna's interests in science, faith, and the Yankees! She then attended Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Pennsylvania and later attended Utica College and SUNY College of Albany, achieving her Bachelor of Science and M.Ed.
Corinna married Donal Winckler in 1955. They moved to Long Island and the Utica area with their three children. Corinna served as a pastor's wife, scout leader, and choir member. After divorcing, she moved with her children to Delmar. In 1969, Corinna married Richard Bishop and moved to Saratoga, where she lived for over 50 years.
Choosing a career in science education, Corinna taught for over 35 years in the Clinton, Delmar, Saratoga Springs, and Schuylerville school systems - retiring in 1991.
Upon retiring, Corinna's servant leadership skills blossomed. Starting as a volunteer in the Rose Gardens of Yaddo, she became a docent and board member. Taking a memoir class in the Academy for Lifelong Learning Program led to teaching classes on local history and board membership, and being part of the choir at Saratoga United Methodist Church allowed her to be a source of strength for many.
Corinna was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Bishop and Donal Winckler, and her parents, Raymond and Phoeba Sigler.
Her surviving family includes her brother, Raymond (Sharon) Sigler and her children, Nancy Winckler-Zuniga, Lynn (Roger) Sarver, David (Cindy) Winckler, Brian (Denisse Carrasco) Bishop, Eileen Christopher, Richard (Roseann) Bishop, and Gregory (Elizabeth) Bishop; grandchildren, who will remember her immense commitment to furthering their education, Amanda (Micah) Wilson, Kara (Aaron Perrault) Sarver, Taylor (Ben) Chow, Geovanni Zuniga, Christopher (Kiana) Lee, Ryan Lee, Julia Bishop, Caroline Bishop, Tyler Bishop, Dr. Erin (James) Sisk, Ryan Christopher, Hillary (Travis) Kruckenberg, Juliana (Ryan) Rosel, Laura (Brian) Bertrand, Drew (Jordan) Bishop; Great-grandchildren, Noah, Mackenzie, Grayson, Lexton, Calleigh, Ariana, and Kaeden.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 12:00pm to 1:30pm on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518)584-5373. A funeral service will begin at 1:30pm with Pastor Heather officiating.
