Gansevoort, NY - Curtis Elton Petteys passed away Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family, after a long courageous battle with Lymphoma. He was 64. Born on April 4, 1945 in Glens Falls, NY, he was the son of Sarah Blanchard Petteys and the late Curtis A. Petteys. Curtis was a volunteer firefighter with the Wilton Fire Department for 41 years, serving as an Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Asst. Chief, Chief and most recently as Commissioner. He retired from the Saratoga County Highway Department of Public Works as a Fleet Manager. Prior to that Curtis worked for DeRidder Masonry, Fine Hardwoods, Chandler Heavy Equipment Repair and Capital District Lathe & Plaster. He was a Vietnam veteran serving from 1965 to 1967 and was honorably discharged from the US Army in October, 1971. Curtis was a life member of Gurtler Bros. Post 420 VFW of Saratoga Springs and a member of the Fortsville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, July 4th fireworks and sitting on his lawn tractor watching the sunset. Most of all Curtis enjoyed being with his family and his dog Morty. In addition to his mother Sarah, survivors include his wife of 43 years, Roberta Faulkner Petteys of Wilton; one daughter, Shennon Lucia and her husband Samuel of Corinth; two sons, Curtis E. Petteys II and his companion Teresa Kenyon of Moreau and Hal Parker and his wife Patti of Saratoga Springs; his granddaughters, Tiffany "Tiffski" Lucia, Katelyn Petteys, Ciara Parker and his grandsons, Steven Petteys and Samuel Lucia II; a nephew and niece, Clyde Nicholson and Jessica Nicholson. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm Wednesday (Aug. 12, 2009) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Members of the Wilton Fire Dept. will gather at 7:15pm at the funeral home for their service. The funeral will be held at 10am Thursday at the Fortsville United Methodist Church, Fortsville Rd. Gansevoort. Burial with military and departmental honors will be at the family plot in Gurn Springs Cemetery, Wilton.
