IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cynthia Fisher
Gavert
November 8, 1936 – February 12, 2024
Albany, NY- Cynthia Fisher Gavert, aged 87, of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away on Monday morning, February 12, 2024, at Albany Medical Center.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, on November 8, 1936, to Mollie and William Fisher, Cynthia was a graduate of Rockville High School, Class of 1955. She loved her Rockville High classmates and continued to attend reunions including the one this past August of 2023. She furthered her education at the University of Hartford where she met her husband Raymond and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin. In 1959, she married Raymond Gavert, commencing on a journey that would see them move across the country in support of Raymond's academic pursuits, from Wisconsin to Cleveland. They moved quite frequently, which is how Cynthia came to love Real Estate, and ultimately settled in Alexandria, VA, for thirty-four years. Cynthia and Raymond loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel to places that included Greece, Jerusalem, Italy and Hawaii. Following Raymond's passing, Cynthia spent her final years in Ballston Lake and Saratoga Springs, NY, to be closer to her daughter, Wendy Gavert.
Cynthia was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Raymond Gavert, her parents William and Mollie Fisher, her sister Janet Fisher, her sister-in-law Marilyn McElhinny and her son-in-law Charles Leonowicz. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication as evidenced by her surviving family: her daughter, Wendy E. Gavert; son, William B. Gavert and his wife, Evelyn; grandsons, Christopher Leonowicz and Thomas Gavert; and granddaughters, Caitlin Leonowicz, Olivia, Gavert and Eva Gavert, her niece Jill McElhinny Mondo who briefly lived with Cynthia and Raymond, Sisters-in-law Darlene McIntyre and Onnolee Samuelson and nieces and nephews.
Known for her loving, caring, and generous nature, Cynthia dedicated her life to providing a wonderful home for her children and husband. Her compassion extended beyond her family. She also loved animals and befriended and saved many that were homeless. As her children got older, Cynthia began a new career as Assistant Director of the Alexandria, VA, Red Cross Blood Program, eventually becoming its Director of Blood Services. Her efforts were recognized with several regional and national awards. Cynthia then pursued a second career in real estate, where she found great fulfillment and became one of the top-selling agents in Northern VA for over twenty years, combining her love of helping people with her interest in home designs.
We are immensely grateful for the joy and wonderful memories Cynthia provided and will cherish her legacy forever. We will miss terribly her smile, sense of fun and spunk.
