Cynthia Joan Martin, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024 at the age of 80. Born on July 11, 1944, Cynthia lived a life full of love, compassion and unwavering devotion to her family.
Cynthia is survived by her two loving daughters, Elaine (Jay) Schlaht and Jacqueline (Michael) Collichio and beloved grandsons, Michael Jr. and Anthony Collichio, sisters Linda Kendrick (Jagielski) and Marilyn Funk (Jagielski) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her first husband and love of her life Eugene James Martin and her second husband John Karl Schneider. Their memories shared together remained cherished in Cynthia's heart throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her father, Henry Jagielski, her mother Mary Jagielski (Farron) and her brother Henry "Hank" Jagielski.
Cynthia was born in Troy, NY to Henry and Mary Jagielski (Farron). She graduated from Mohonasen High School in Schenectady, NY in 1962, where she took pride in her membership in the National Honor Society. Cynthia's commitment to her studies and pursuit of excellence shone through in all she did. Following graduation, she began her career as an administrative assistant at Swift & Company in Albany, New York. After marrying her husband Eugene "Gene" Martin, Cynthia devoted herself to nurturing her family and embracing her role as a "Domestic Goddess".
Cynthia's deep affection for Saratoga Springs was evident when she chose to raise her family there in 1970. She cherished everything about Saratoga Springs from Yaddo and Congress Park to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center(SPAC) and thrived on the vibrant energy of Saratoga Spring summers. Her keen interest in the city's history and its colorful residents was unwavering.
Cynthia, a devoted volunteer, found great joy in serving at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center(SPAC). For over three decades she cherished every moment there sharing her love for the arts and her contagious, beautiful smile with numerous patrons.
Cynthia treasured her moments spent with her loving grandsons, Michael Jr. and Anthony. Countless memories were made during summers at Lake George, enjoying The Great Escape, Water Slide World, arcades, go-carts and roller skating with their beloved, fun-loving Babcia.
She also held a special affection in her heart for her cherished pets, including Tara, a golden retriever and several Westies, most recently Diamond. They brought her immense joy and companionship throughout the years.
Cynthia's affectionate nature, kindness and steadfast support will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She leaves us a legacy of love and resilience that will continue to uplift and inspire all whom were touched by her special presence and zest for life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service to celebrate Cynthia's life at the William J. Burke & Sons / Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY, 12866 on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11am.
Burial will take place immediately following the service at St. Peter's Cemetery, 150 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY.
