Saratoga Springs, NY - Daisy Elliott Diggory passed away early Saturday morning(Sept. 27, 2008) at the Wesley Health Care Center following a long illness. She was 85. Mrs. Diggory was born November 13, 1922 in New York City, the daughter of the late Herbert J. and Daisy A.(Siegenthaler) Elliott. She studied for teacher certification at the Mills School in New York City and received a B.S. in Education, Magna Cum Laude, from Adelphi College, Garden City, NY. For several years, she taught both private and public schools in the suburban Philadelphia area, during her marriage to James C. Diggory, which ended in divorce. She returned to Long Island with her two children and worked in the West Islip Public Schools as an elementary school teacher and later as a high school librarian. She received an M.S. in Library Science from C.W. Post College, Westbury, NY. After retirement, she continued library work at the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library. Ms. Diggory loved reading and traveled widely, as far away as Tibet. She enjoyed visits to Long Island beaches and to New York City for theater, concerts and opera. In 2003, Ms. Diggory moved to Saratoga Springs, where she joined the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church. She is survived by a son, Terence Diggory and his wife, Anne, of Saratoga Springs; a daughter, Edith Mellow, and her husband, Glenn, of Huntington Woods, MI; and grandchildren Ariel Diggory of Saranac Lake, NY; Parker Diggory of Atlanta, GA; Blair and Jonathon Mellow, both of Huntington Woods, MI. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4pm Monday afternoon at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Funeral services will be conducted at 5pm Monday (Sept. 29, 2008) at the Presbyterian New England Congregational Church, 24 Circular Street, by the Rev. Jay Ekman, pastor.
