Saratoga Springs, NY- Daniel Briggs Thornton, 68, of Saratoga Springs passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital after a brief illness.

Dan was a graduate of St. Peter's Academy in 1972. He earned his AOS degree in Substance Abuse Counseling from Hudson Valley in 2004. Dan had several careers throughout his life, until he found his true calling as a Substance Abuse Counselor. He did that for many years before his health forced him into retirement.

Dan was predeceased by his father Michael. He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Patricia (Van Dorn), son Brendan and bonus son, Ralph Grotto (Giulianna). He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth, three brothers: Michael (Ann), Timothy (Deborah), Matthew (Wanda) and one sister Cheryl (Al) Bishop; several nieces and nephews, and his best friend and companion Savana.

Dan had a long battle with health issues, yet always fought the good fight. His sense of humor got him through most times. Dan loved traveling to his favorite spot, Savannah Georgia.

His family would like to thank the wonderful nurses in the ICU department at Saratoga Hospital, true Angels. When remembering Dan, it is asked that you just be a little kinder to one another and make others laugh.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, October 21, 2022 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.  A graveside service will be held at 11am on Saturday October 22, 2022 in Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave. Saratoga Springs.
