IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David R.
Kenyon
August 28, 1942 – April 8, 2022
Greenfield Center, NY - David R. Kenyon, 79 went home to the Lord on April 8, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs. He was the son of Walter F. and Doris (Geils) Kenyon both deceased. He went peacefully in his sleep, covered in love by his family.
David loved his high school years in Saratoga; he made dear, lifelong friends there. He participated in athletics such as Wrestling Squad and the Football Team. He had great memories of those days.
In his youth he also loved the local drum and bugle corps, The Saratoga Ambassadors, where his father was also a member. He spent many happy years going to contests and marching in the parades. He played the drums and the horn. It became a lifelong love of his. He played drum corps tapes and CD'S always, very loudly. When he became ill later in life, his wife would play drum corps music for him; even in his debilitating illness he could still direct the band.
David enlisted in the US Navy after high school as a Heavy Construction Equipment Mechanic in the SeaBees. During his 8 year enlistment, he attained the rank / rate of CMH2, Petty Officer 2nd Class. His pride was serving with the Mobile Construction Batallion-58 in Danang Vietnam, as well as California, Cuba and New Foundland.
Following the service, David returned to his hometown where he joined the Ryder Truck Rental Company where he made excellent use of his SeaBee experience, and was quickly promoted to Service Manager. After 20 years there in which he made wonderful lifelong friends, he opened his own small business, "Kenyon's Truck Service" where he serviced the local area. He discovered that he missed belonging to a group though so he decided to join the Greenfield Fire Department. He earned many certificates in the fire department and soon became a First Responder and an EMT. During his tenure he also became the Deputy Chief. He was a well loved and respected member of the Greenfield VFD, and the sister-stations in the area. Over the past 30 years, David has once again faithfully and proudly served his community, and recently received his end of service awards presented by the entire District.
He and his wife, Della, thoroughly enjoyed riding on his various motorcycles throughout their married lifetime. They rode many of the beautiful roads in NY; also Vermont knew them well, Massachusetts, the Blue Ridge Mountains all the way through Pennsylvania. They road all the way to Pensacola FL to visit their Marine son and his family. When they were in their 60's they even went out west; all the way to Idaho, over to Utah, down to Arizona and home. They had an incredible time for a month. David even got to use his EMT skills on a small baby who was having seizures. They enjoyed their trip out to St. Edwards Isle with special friends of theirs; visiting friends homes at Sacandaga. They have been blessed with many wonderful friends, family and neighbors.
David is survived by his loving wife Della (Yannizzi) Kenyon, his older brother Paul Kenyon and his son Davie Kenyon. He was a proud father to Stanford A. Jones, and fiancé, June Tubbs, Jeffrey A. Jones and his wife, Melina Giraldo, David J. Kenyon and his wife Barbara Kenyon, and Joshua R. Kenyon and his wife Nicole Kenyon.
