Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Springs - David “Pop” Torres, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family at his home in Saratoga Springs, NY. David was born on September 5, 1938 in Manhattan, NY. David spent his childhood in Brooklyn, NY with his six siblings until he received a full swimming scholarship from Union College in Kentucky, where he majored in accounting. After graduating, David returned to his roots in New York City. Following a brief stint in accounting, David chose to enter the field of Human Services with the New York City Department of Social Services. He would spend the next 30 years as a caseworker, supervisor, and ultimately the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Administrative Services, retiring in 1994.
In 2007, David and his beloved wife, Judy, moved to Saratoga Springs, NY to be closer to their grandchildren, on whom he bestowed unconditional love and affection. They were truly his pride and joy. Known to all as “Pop” or “Papa,” David had a rare gift for making everyone feel like family. Whether it was a grandchild’s friend, neighbor, or a familiar face in the stands, Pop welcomed each of them as one of his own, offering warmth, encouragement, and love without limit. David was a huge fan of all Saratoga Blue Streaks athletic programs, and loved watching his grandchildren participate and compete in multiple sports at Saratoga Springs High School. He was especially fond of the Saratoga Springs Varsity Ice Hockey Team, attending all home and away games traveling with close family friends. David will be truly missed by his family and friends, as he made a lasting impact on all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
David is survived by his wife Judy; his sons David (Michele) and Mark (Tara); his daughter Diane; his grandchildren Nicholas (Shanna), Alexandra (Jay), Michael, Haleigh (Michael) and Sofia; his great-grandson David “Trey”; and his sister Virginia. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Hector, Tommy, Antonio, Abraham and his sister Rosalie.
