Saratoga Springs - Donald Charles Hammond, 95, of Saratoga Springs passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at home with children and grand-children at his side. He was a life-long resident of Saratoga Springs, spending winter months of his retirement in Las Vegas, NV. Born on February 15, 1920, son of the late Fred and Anna Polly (Deming) Hammond, he served in the United States Army Air Corp from 1942 to 1945 in the European theater where he received three Bronze Battle Stars and a Combat Infantry Badge. Donald was a well-respected independent contractor in and around the Saratoga Springs area for most of his life. He coached Little League baseball for 13 years and enjoyed bowling, pinochle, and dominos. He also enjoyed leisurely drives through the Adirondacks with his wife and their children. His last trip was to Crown Point, NY. In addition to his parents, Donald is predeceased by five brothers; Earl, Henry, Carl, Norman, and Glen, four sisters; Ruth, Alice, Cora Mae, and Mary, and six brothers in-law; Arthur, Ernest, William, Thomas, Joseph and Edward Lloyd. Donald leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Mary Teresa (Lloyd) Hammond, his ten children; David (Janice), Daniel, Donald, Constance (Martin) Holtby, Catherine Donovan (Timothy, deceased), Karen (David Morris), Carol, Dale (Caren, deceased), Mary (Michael) Cassani, and Douglas (Petra) Hammond, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, one great, great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews. Donald also leaves behind sister in-law Shirley Peacock Hammond, brother in-law Jack (Linda) Lloyd, sister in-law Jean Monroe Lloyd, and sister in-law Constance Charbonneau Lloyd. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:30am Monday, August 31, 2015 at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). Burial will be private.
