Saratoga Springs, NY – Doris Mae (Bradeen) Boyd, 95, while under Hospice care, passed away peacefully very early Saturday morning, March 26th, 2016, just 3 months after the passing of her beloved husband of 72 years, Arthur Boyd. Doris and Arthur resided at the Home of the Good Shepard, in Malta NY for the past year.
Doris was born on October 18th, 1920 in Lockport, New York , to the late Leroy and Laura Bradeen. Doris was raised in Millinocket, ME, but spent her summers working and playing at a resort owned by her parents located on Kidney Pond, at the base of Mt. Katadin. From age 5 to 12 years old, Doris attended The McInnis School located in Greenville, ME. Starting in 8th grade, by the recommendation of Governor Baxter, Doris attended and resided at the Fryeburg Academy located in Fryeburg, ME. Doris was a sports fanatic and while attending the Fryeburg Academy, she earned her Varsity letters in Field Hockey and Basketball. Doris graduated from the Academy in 1938, and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Home Economics from the University of Maine in 1942, where she met her dear husband, Arthur.
Following her graduation from the University, Doris and Arthur married on July 14th, 1943. Doris then began her career as a wife, loving mother and remarkable homemaker. She and Arthur resided in several New England cities before settling in Garden City, NY to raise their two children, Nancy and John. Doris and Arthur later moved to Woodbury, CT. After several years living in CT, Doris and Arthur relocated to Pawleys Island, South Carolina. They enjoyed the warmth and sunshine of the South for about 10 years, before moving to Saratoga Springs, NY to be closer to family. Doris and Arthur spent 15 years living at Prestwick Chase, in Saratoga Springs, prior to their move to The Home of the Good Shepard.
Doris was not only an athlete in school but she continued through her adult life as a huge fan of professional tennis, and an avid player as well. As an adult she also enjoyed downhill skiing, and even taught her grandson, David, and granddaughter, Sara, how to ski. In addition to sports, Doris loved entertaining and was very passionate about singing, dancing and playing the piano. She was always known to grab the microphone if given the opportunity and sing to the crowd. Doris was a gourmet cook and often treated her family to elaborate meals. One of her most spectacular dishes was her Italian Roasted Leg of Lamb that she would prepare each Easter. Doris loved to socialize, and enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. She was a beautiful woman, always dressed to the nines. She would light up every room she entered. Doris was someone you wanted to invite to your party not only for her beautiful singing voice and lively dancing, but for her charm and charisma.
