SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY- Doris R. Lamont of Saratoga Springs, NY passed away on September 25, 2025 at the age of 100.
Doris was born in 1925 and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the daughter of Adolph and Edna Rydgren. She graduated from the Tower Hill School, Wilmington and from Wheaton College, Massachusetts with a degree in American Studies. Doris received a Master's Degree in Education from S.U.N.Y Oneonta.
Though Doris enjoyed raising her three sons: Bill, Bruce and Jeff for much of her adult life, she also served as a Teacher in several Elementary Schools in the Catskills region of New York. Doris wrote local American History curriculum for Fourth Grade schools long before it became a state requirement.
With her great love of History, Doris volunteered at many historical societies and museums in Rhode Island and New York for 65 years. She wrote local history articles for newspapers and her radio programs on local history were broadcast twice daily in Sullivan County. Doris served on the Board of Directors of the Warwick, Rhode Island Historical Society, the Sullivan County Historical Society and the Friends of Grant Cottage in Saratoga Springs, New York. Doris served as archivist at the Saratoga Springs Historical Society for 19 years.
As well as serving on the Executive Committees of numerous Historical Societies, Doris served on the Council of her Church, created and ran a Nature Camp for two years in the Catskills and was active in the Callicoon, New York PTA and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother in both New York and Maryland. She was also a member in the local Audubon Society of New York.
Doris loved camping, hiking, birding and Ballroom Dancing. She went on many Elderhostel trips and enjoyed spending time overseas with her friends in England for many years.
Doris Lamont is survived by her sons William D. Lamont of Mechanicville, NY, Bruce R. Lamont of Athens, GA and Jeffrey C. Lamont of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Luca, Che, Joel and Devon Lamont and Nephews Douglas, Richard and Robert Rydgren.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial service at 11am on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunnif Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
