Saratoga Springs - Doris Pemberton Leary, whose life was cut short at the tender age of 93, passed away on the morning of October 10, 2017 at the Wesley Healthcare Center. She was a first generation American, born on August 27, 1924, to the late Peter Pemberton and Ellen Hawkins Pemberton, natives from across the pond.
Doris was a lifelong resident of Saratoga Springs and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School in 1942. She worked for the A&P Supermarket, the Jamesway Department Store and Denby's. Later in life she attended BOCES in Saratoga Springs where she obtained her cosmetology license. Doris was a creative, kind, generous person who enjoyed gardening, her beloved Mets, White Russians and Ben & Jerry's ice cream, although not necessarily in that order.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband James W. Leary (1989), as well as her four siblings Peter Pemberton, Lillian Pemberton Lane, Lawrence Pemberton and George "Jud" Pemberton.
She is survived by her sons James W. Leary, Jr. (Leatrice Coonradt) of Saratoga Springs, Kevin R. Leary of Lutz, Florida , her daughter Linda S. Leary (Robert "Oscar" Meyer) Slingerlands, New York, and five grandsons Charles F. (Carissa) Leary, James W. (Meg) Leary, III, Christopher S. Leary, Mason R. Leary and Andrew J. Meyer. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Erin M. Leary, Elizabeth K. Leary and James W. Leary, IV.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Monday, October 16, 2017 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
A funeral service will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at the funeral home and burial will be in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.
