Saratoga Springs, NY - Dorothy Bemis passed away peacefully Monday (Dec. 23, 2013) at her residence, with her family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 69. Born on June 20, 1944 in New York City, she is the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Fedory Caputo. A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, she in turn was loved by all her friends. She enjoyed relaxing at her summer property on Schuyler Island and enjoyed many years of boating on Lake George. Dorothy attended Vincentian Institute in Albany, worked for seven years at BOCES and also worked in her family's housing business for many years. She was predeceased by her parents. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Wayne Bemis, Sr.; her daughters, Kimberly Strainer of Saratoga Springs and Wendy (husband Bill) Slater of Wilton; her son, Wayne (wife Theresa) Bemis, Jr., of Georgia; her sister, Elizabeth (husband Lewis) Hill; her grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Stewart, Brittany and Jessica Slater, Samantha and Bryan Bemis and nieces. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Friday (Dec. 27, 2013) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373.
