Obituary

Ballston Spa, NY - Dorothy Emily Weber died peacefully Monday, January 12, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital. She was 85. Born on February 14, 1923 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Doretta (Holzhauer) Silverwood. After graduating from Albany High School in 1941, Dorothy married John L. Weber at St. James Church in Albany. She lived with John's family while he left for the Navy to serve in the Pacific Theater during WWII. During this time their daughter Helen was born and their second daughter Janet was born in 1949. Dorothy was a fantastic homemaker and also worked outside the home for Quevic Vichy Co. After becoming an "empty nester", she worked in the cafeteria at the Saratoga Springs Junior High School and retired from Hamilton News in Glenmont, NY. For 70 years Dorothy was a leading supporter of the Yankee Doodle Band from Ft. Crailo, Rensselaer, NY. She would accompany her lead trombone player, John, on all his engagements with the band. Starting in the late 1970's, Dorothy and John would leave their home in Albany and move aboard their boat, The Ein Prosit, for the summer. Together they spent many a fine breezy evenings on the Hudson in the company of their friends at the Shady Harbor Marina and the Albany Yacht Club. Weekends were always for the young at heart. Dorothy and John were a handsome couple who danced, dined and socialized with their friends and families at the Power Squadron, The Elks Club, The CBA Alumni, the German/American Club, American Legion Ft. Crailo and the Model T Ford Club. "Grammy" was never too busy for her grandchildren. They all looked forward to their yearly summer stay for a week on the boat. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, John H. Lusher; her brother, Frank Silverwood and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Marilyn Weber. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, John L. Weber of Ballston Spa; two daughters, Helen Lusher of Kearneysville, WV and Janet (Michael) Mulholland of Saratoga Springs; five grandchildren, Ian (Kristen) Mulholland of Glen Arm, MD, MariKate (Robert) Carter of Gales Ferry, CT, Kristine Lusher of Kearneysville, WV, Rita Hess of Longs, SC and Maurice Mulholland of Baltimore, MD; five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Austin, Michael, Kaitlyn and Kelly; cousins Yvonne George of Darasota, FL and Winnie Clare of Keighly, West Yorkshire, England. Relatives and friends may call from 6 to 8pm Friday, January 16, 2009 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Saturday, January 17, 2009 at St. Clement's Church. 231 Lake Ave. Burial will follow in the family plot at Our Lady Help of Christians in Glenmont, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or Maplewood Manor 3rd Floor Activity Fund, 149 Ballston Ave., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses on D-1, Saratoga Hospital.
