Obituary

Saratoga Springs - Doug Haller passed away on July 23, 2018, at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Doug was born May 10, 1955 in Schenectady, NY.  He graduated from Niskayuna High School (1973) and Geneva College (1978) with a degree in Theology.  Doug was a former director of Camp Pattersonville, a Christian Children's camp, and a deacon at Schenectady's First Presbyterian Church. Doug started his career as Real Estate Agent in Schenectady. Starting in 1989, he served New York State, first in the Office of General Services and then in the Department of Environmental Conservation, working to protect conservation lands. Doug retired in 2017 after being diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Doug ascribed to a life philosophy of Secular Humanism for the second half of his life.  He strived to make the world a better place through his daily interactions with others and his volunteer activities.  He was a former administrative director of Saratoga's Flurry Festival and enjoyed music and dancing for many years.  In Saratoga, he was an advocate for healthy transportation and was a former president of Bikeatoga.   He was an appointed member of Saratoga Complete Streets Advisory Board and had been involved with Saratoga Rowing Association, Kiwanis and the YMCA.  Doug and his wife, Annie, hosted international students and teachers from around the world.

Doug was predeceased by his mother, Shirley Eastman Haller, his father Bill Haller, father-in-law Bill Boyle, and his niece, Istenya Boyle Hurty.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Boyle Haller; sons, Chris (Jecel) Haller of Thailand and Matt (Taija) Haller of New Jersey; daughter, Erin Finch; and granddaughter, Mimi Haller of Thailand.  He is also survived by his sisters, Judy (Jim) Selock and Wendy (Mike) Briggs; mother-in-law, Babbie Boyle; brothers-in-law, Bill Boyle (Robin Waxman), Pat (Ruth) Boyle, Mike Boyle and Tim Boyle; and, sisters-in-law, Mimsey Kelly, Babsy (Roy) Claydon, Peggy (Pearse) O'Shiel, Sheila Boyle (Glenn Monastersky) and Beth (Gary) Rhodes; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call from 11am-3pm on Sunday, July 29, at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff, Inc. Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A service to share remembrances will begin at 2:30pm.
