Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Douglas E. Reeder Jr., 61, passed away Saturday (Oct. 7, 2017) at Saratoga Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 23, 1956 in Yonkers, NY, the son of Marguerite Braschoss Reeder and the late Douglas E. Reeder, Sr. He grew up in Yonkers, graduating from St. Eugene's Elementary, where he served as an altar boy. Doug graduated second in his class from Fordham Prep in 1974. He received his BA in 1978 from Northwestern University and an MBA in Finance from Fordham University.

Doug worked in the banking industry as an accountant, mainly for Nat West and MBNA. He enjoyed following sports, especially the Yankees and the New Jersey Devil's Hockey Teams. He was honored as a lifetime member of the Henry S. Richards Boys Club of Yonkers for his many years of volunteering as a coach and for his work as the Commissioner of Henry S. Richards Little League for 17 yrs. He enjoyed the many friends he made over 47 years at Scarsdale Golf Club. Throughout his lifetime, he gave generously of his time and money to charities that were important to him.

In addition to his mother of Saratoga Springs, whom he spent his last ten years caring for, Doug is survived by his sister Cathy Kearney and her husband Jim of Brant Lake; his brother Pete and his wife Elma of Scarsdale and his brother Don and his wife Andi of Saratoga Springs; his nephew Jimmy Kearney (wife Megan) and their son James of Gansevoort; his nieces Katie Kearney, Casey and Luca Reeder and his nephew Michael Reeder.

Friends and family attended a private viewing at 9am (Oct. 13) in the historic Church of St. Peter on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, which was followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Interment immediately followed in St. Peter's Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Saratoga Hospital, Albany Medical and Sloan Kettering for their compassionate care, to Wesley Senior Solutions for providing him care at home and also the Saratoga Springs Fire Dept. for their kindness and support.

To honor Doug's memory, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the Saratoga Springs Fire Dept.
