Saratoga Springs, NY – Edith "Edie' Dickstein passed away Wednesday August 15, 2018 at her home in Saratoga Springs with her beloved family by her side. She was 94.
Born April 28, 1924 on Long Island and shortly after moving to New York City, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sarah Schacht Dickstein. Educated at Cooper Union, Edith went onto work for a commercial advertising agency. She was passionate about the arts and spent endless hours painting and sculpting. Edith was a competitive tennis player on the courts, playing until her late eighties. Her tennis trophies and awards are too numerous to count. Edith's one true love for over forty years was her late husband Sylvan "Van" Kessler. They were childhood friends in New York City and were reunited years later. Edith's family is at peace knowing that Van and Edith are finally together again.
In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by her brother Seymour Dickstein.
Edith was the loving mother to Bruce Fishon (Debbie Liberty) and Jill Kovachick (David Leman); beloved grandmother to Sarah and Harrison Kovachick. She is also survived by niece Lori Dailey (Bill) and several other family members.
The family would like to thank the many loving and compassionate friends, nurses and doctors who helped comfort and care for Edith.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday August 20, 2018 at 10:30am sharp at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations in Edith's memory to The Cancer Patient Fund or The Radiation Oncology Center (The ROC) c/o The Saratoga Hospital Foundation, 211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
